Last week we attended the Rail Vehicles & Enhancements (RVE) Expo at the Derby Velodrome on Pride Park in Derby, a fantastic venue and show specifically focussed on Rail Vehicles and Enhancements.

With the show having consistently grown in attendance and popularity over the past 6 years, it’s no surprise to see people flocking from all over the world to attend the event.  This year following the release of the new website and the excitement surrounding it the show has proven bigger and more exciting than ever, a credit to Terry and Jon Jeffries.

Since we were responsible for developing their stunning new website and tasked with increasing further exposure of the event, we were very excited to attend and get a taste of what the RVE industry has to offer its broad range of visitors. With attendees such as international exhibitors, buyers and delegates from Train Owners & Operators, Consultancy Industry, Heavy Maintainers, Integrators, Designers and the Supply Chain; we knew this was going to be an event full of pleasant surprises, what we did know that since we released the new website lots of great things are happening, visitors and exhibitors and the size of the show have all exponentially increased since last year.

Organised by OnyxRail, the show was definitely a roaring success and gave us the perfect insight into the Rail industry, not to mention the scores of enhancements that blew us away! In addition to all of this, there was an array of influential thought-leaders who were invited as Guest Speakers to showcase the new projects they’re currently working on, as an idea of what consumers may be exposed to in the short- and long-term.

Amongst the great people we talked to on the day was Katie Hicks of Unipart rail, Mark Tomlinson of Bio-Circle, Mark Hammond Manager at Hayley Group Limited, Jolene Price and Nigel Wordsworth of www.rail-media.com and the Peter Scott from www.hytorc.com

New technology such as real-time passenger counting and passenger information equipment, other innovations including LED lighting, entertainment and advertising systems, interior and product designers, energy saving solutions and driver advisory equipment were also on offer in a sneak preview of some tantalising new enhancements.

Owing to the success and growth of previous years, it appears that the RVE Expo will return next year with a bigger and better event for 2018. Over the course of the next year, the show looks to tackle the challenges of re-franchising, PRMTSI, continued passenger growth and the industry-wide aim to boost capacity. While the industry continually chases the common goal of improving the quality of rail travel, we firmly believe that the Rail Vehicles and Enhancements Expo in 2018 is pivotal to further improvement.

Overall, even from an outside perspective, we could see the real value in the event and was truly fascinated by many of the innovations discussed by guest speakers, exhibitors and guests. The RVE Expo is definitely something we believe can prove to be of great benefit to the industry year after year, and believe that the show will return next year in even more ground-breaking fashion.

We were really impressed this year with the show and really pleased to have designed, built and launched a website that matches the ambitions of the owners for growth in the next few years!
