Whats Appening with Facebook? Social Media Giant acquires WhatsApp
Facebook announced on Wednesday that it had purchased Whatsapp. Acquiring the mobile messaging app at $19bn, it is Facebooks largest acquisition.
The mobile messaging app has a subscription fee of $1 per year, however there is a free version available. Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg estimated that the mobile messaging app will grow to 1 billion users, and when interviewed, he described the app as incredibly valuable.
When announcing the purchase of WhatsApp, Mark Zuckerberg said the idea of the deal was only discussed 11 days ago. Zuckerberg does not have any advertising plans for the WhatsApp platform, and says advertising is not suitable or appropriate of mobile messaging apps; so it looks like hes keeping his advertising plans on Facebook for now.hbjjilkm.,
In 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram, which was their biggest deal for $1bn. On Wednesday, Facebook purchased the mobile messaging app for $19bn, making it the Social Media Giants biggest purchase. The payment was made up with $12 billion in Facebook shares, $4 billion cash, and $3 billion in shares to be paid out to employees and founders at a later date.
When interviewed, WhatsApp founder, Jan Koum said the company were honoured and thrilled to join forces with Mark and his Facebook Empire as the company continue to bring their message app to more people around the world.
Once the deal is closed, founders Jan Koum and Brian Acton are on track to become the next billionaires of Silicon Valley.
